About this policy

We aim to handle personal information responsibly and transparently and to comply with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) to the extent they apply to us, together with other applicable privacy and marketing laws. This policy should be read alongside any collection notice we provide when asking you for information.
What personal information we collect
The information we collect depends on how you interact with us. It may include:
- contact details such as your name, email address, telephone number and organisation or job title, where you choose to provide them;

Newsletter subscriptions and marketing
If you subscribe to our newsletter, we will use the details you provide to send you updates about CineCare and its work. We may use a third-party email or newsletter platform to manage subscriptions and distribute messages on our behalf. We will not add you to the newsletter merely because you make a general enquiry or interact with us in another way, unless permitted by law.

When we disclose personal information
We may disclose personal information where reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including to:

If we propose to use or disclose personal information for a new purpose, we will do so only where permitted by law and provide any notice or obtain any consent that is required.
Sensitive information, children and hospital projects
We do not intend to collect sensitive information through the public website or newsletter as part of our ordinary communications. If we need to collect sensitive information for a specific activity, we will consider whether collection is necessary, explain the purpose and obtain consent where required by law.
CineCare’s work takes place in children’s hospitals, but this does not mean that CineCare’s public website or newsletter needs patient information. We will work with the relevant hospital to establish appropriate responsibilities and safeguards before collecting or using such information.

These steps may include access controls, secure systems, limiting access to people who need the information, and using reputable service providers.
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, to meet legal or recordkeeping requirements, or to resolve disputes. When information is no longer required, we take reasonable steps to destroy it or de-identify it, where lawful and practicable. No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
If a data breach occurs, we will assess and respond to it in accordance with applicable law, including the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme if it applies to CineCare.
